HISTORY OF THE SWEET LA KING’S CONFECTIONERY

La King’s Candy and Ice Cream Parlor is a step back in time to the 1920’s when Jimmy King began made candy in Houston learning the trade from ‘Old World’ candy makers.  Jimmy’s oldest son, Jack moved his family to the Historic Strand in Galveston is 1976 to open an old-fashioned confectionery.  Jack used 19th century recipes, formulas, and methods, handed down to him, using traditional equipment and old-world procedures to make his sweet confections.

La King’s Confectionery features a working 1920’s soda fountain serving malts, shakes, ice cream sodas, sundaes, splits, floats and your favorite fountain treats. La King’s proudly makes and serves “Purity” ice cream which was Texas’ first ice cream manufacturer, founded in 1889 on Galveston Island.
